Hope, Light, Goddess, Birth of a Dream. Happy Winter Solstice

I only had one clear direction, one drive, one goal from the moment I met Joe, from the tiny drop of hope I took away from our meeting: make my dream happen.

The Winter Solstice is considered one of the greatest spiritual events on the calendar and has deep meaning in many cultures.  It is associated with the birth of the Sun, the birth of God and Goddess.  In also seen as rebirth of the light.  It is a celebration of family, and of hope.

And so today it is not beyond me to take a moment and find gratitude and a look back where seeds for the re-birth of P.R.A.Y. Jewelry began an auspicious 9 months ago.  The inspiration, light, rebirth I feel suits the significance of the Winter Solstice.  Appropriate that today I am feeling inspired by my inner Goddess, by my inner light, and to tell the story of how P.R.A.Y. Jewelry was reborn.

For my vision and dream had been in hibernation, and perhaps in my mind even put to rest.  That is, until a synchronistic encounter with Joe, the infamous Chiang Mai tarot card reader/ Psychic/ Energy worker.  Early 30’s, Joe is well practiced in moving and seeing energy. It is apparent that he merely uses the tarot as a tool, that he knows things about people using his senses, simply by being in their presence, by feeling their energy.  He knows their story.  Joe uses his fine-tuned senses and higher knowledge of life to help guide people on their journey.

I was not interested in have a tarot card reading.  Opposed, turned off by this esoteric science, in fact, I could barely entertain the conversation while my Thai friend Jiaranai relayed her friendship and mystical experiences with Joe.  As we all know, when we are forced to stop and listen and we follow the “signs”, most often we are led in a direction that proves bountiful.  So when my air-tight hat flew off my head riding on the back of Jiaranai’s motorbike and Tarot Reading Joe passed through my mind, I insisted J call him as we stood on the side of a hot, humid, dirty, busy Asian motorway.  No less than 3 hours later did we have a girl’s day around Chiang Mai and one of the most powerful and important hours of my next year.

A few key things to note at this point:
  •           My jewelry line, while conceptualized 10 months prior to this precise day, had a name, but no logo and therefore no true brand or mark in the world
  •             I had no idea what Joe could possibly do, help me with, if he could help me, or what we would talk about
  •            3 near death experiences, overworking and general India soul excavation left me dazed, arriving in Thailand in flow but generally unclear & seemingly lost in my life at the moment I went to see him.  I was getting on a train the following day to South Thai Islands to teach Mala Making Workshops but that was the most direction I had

Session with Joe, Takeaways:

  •          Business Oracle that he is, Joe was able to guide me in so many ways regarding P.R.A.Y.
  •          Cards showed: PRAY had no logo, also that as soon as I got a logo, the business would become famous & successful.  Joe was able to counsel me on what my logo should be & why.
  •          Joe made predictions about travel & money – what would happen over the course of this year, specifically where and what I would spend my money on.  I did not believe him.  All of what he said has to fruition.
  •          Joe shared that he had the image of Shiva, god of Creation and Destruction, prior to meeting me.  He was not sure why.  My hair was pulled into a side ponytail.  When I took it down without prompt, he shared his vision, saying that he then got the same image.  To him this made sense; Shiva creates, as an artist and designer I create and destroy again in order to re-create.

Only days prior energy was stagnant, stuck, vision dead.  Then I sat at a table with Jiaranai, Joe and a world of possibilities, a glimmer of my potential laid out before me.  I had a couple of simple tips about how to move forward with my gifts and vision, and that was all I needed.  The rest would, and did, unfold from there.

Light.  Goddess spirit re-ignited.  Re-birth.  All of this came clear as soon as I began to follow life.  Using recommendations about logo design from Joe, I drew a couple of renditions of what I wanted my logo to look like.  As my synchronistic, flowy life saw to it, one of the people who happened to be a dear friend to me in the islands was a digital graphic designer.  In no more than a few hours he transformed my drawing into digital form.

VoilĂ ! P.R.A.Y. Jewelry, born into creation.

How did it all unfold?  So many juicy details.  The one I will share with you is the most incredible to me of all:

Not 24 hours after I post my shiny new digitalized logo on Facebook and twitter, a seemingly cool, high profile NYC magazine starts to follow me on twitter.  Less than one week later, I receive an email from the co-editor of this very magazine, The Culture-ist.  They love my brand, my jewelry, and wish to feature me as they launch a brand new socially conscious, green, fair-trade e-commerce shop connected to their already well-known magazine.

Ehhem?  Me?  When I realized they were definitely asking me, I burst out crying and laughing at the same time.  How beautifully the Universe works.

And just as Joe stated it would happen, as soon as I developed a logo for my brand, the message got out.  P.R.A.Y. Jewelry started to become more well-known, more sought after, and the shift of healing jewelry, consciousness in a different form, is happening.

Thank you, Joe.

Namaste: The Story Behind the Takrut Bullet

By Zahara Jade
Founder of P.R.A.Y Jewelry
Now available at DownDog Boutique.com

The world is no longer separated by East and West. In today’s material-based society, the proliferation of Eastern concepts and beliefs are of tremendous value; spirituality, movement-based sciences, philosophy, and energy practices inform those more consciously inclined.

An aspect of Eastern-influenced Western society includes the $6 billion+ a year yoga product industry. Within this marketplace goods from all corners of the earth are sold for all reasons; boost spirituality, physical asana props, threads to wear to yoga class, and so on. Spiritual jewelry is a popular accessory in the yoga world, there are gorgeous pieces to choose, everything from emerald
encrusted Om’s, to malas for a specific chakra, to simple charms with Sanskrit and yogic-related symbols.

The question begs to be asked: can this billion dollar industry- DOES this billion-dollar industry – provide as much healing on a physical level, as the yoga practice itself?

Down Dog Boutique is amongst a select group of forward thinking companies with this intention in mind. Companies such this one, which support socially conscious brands that are eco-friendly, slow fashion, mindful of the Earth in production process, have as much in line with yogic philosophy as yoga itself, and it is such companies (Down Dog Boutique, and those it supports), which continue to bring deep purpose to yoga through a material world.

It has been a personal vision of mine for half a decade to bring powerful Eastern energy to the West in a widely accessible, material form; simple to use that a person could literally pick this “something” up, hold it in their hand (or wear it for that matter), re-balance and heal. What developed over the course of years was my line of healing jewels, and this fall I have been strongly drawn to create a modern healing version of the Takrut bullet amulets, which are grouped within the P.R.A.Y. Jewelry line as the Rapture Crystal Bullet Collection.

The Takrut bullet, known outside of Thailand as "Tangkai", is surrounded by great legend due to its well-known abilities to protect, heal, and bring abundance to many great warriors and general public in Asia. The takrut is a scroll formed from an inscription of ancient text called Yantra, or Yant, onto a sheet of
lead, silver, gold or other material (old bullet shells and other recycled, vintage materials, in the case of P.R.A.Y.). A monk in the healing caste then constructs the amulet scroll according to arcane sciences during deep meditation. This intricate process produces a protective amulet that may be worn to ward off danger, increase serenity, and create good will and abundance.

The Yant and Takrut became better known in niche circles in recent years when a monk in SE Asia inked actress Angelina Jolie with a Sak Yant tattoo. The Sak Yant is the same as the Takrut Yant, except inscribed on the skin. Takrut amulets may be worn on specific body parts to protect or grant power to that particular
part of the body. These protective qualities are instrumental for individuals working with their energetic fields, whether in the lines of yoga, bodywork, energy work, or other healing modalities. Modern urbanites subject to every day imbalances and dis-ease in Western society are prime to benefit from the healing properties in P.R.A.Y.’s Rapture Crystal Bullet Necklaces. Upcycled, vintage Takrut bullets are reconstructed into edgy, modern designs contrasted with energy-conducting crystals to boost the Takrut powers.

Be sure to get one soon, they are rare, limited, and all one-of-a-kind. Most Takruts available in these designs date 20-50+years.

How to Feng Shui. Anywhere.

Love living in a peaceful, comfortable environment but somehow can't find the right energy flow?

What if there were a few small tips that could shift your space, regardless of where you are living, or staying, even for a brief time?

Feng Shui is one of the five ancient arts of Chinese Metaphysics.  Originally used in the East to orient spiritually significant structures such as tombs, Feng Shui is now popularly used by people around the world in a wide variety of areas: landscaping, locating historical sites, architecture, environmental studies.

Nowadays the complex art of Feng Shui has been decoded to a degree for use in homes of every day people.  Similar to the concept of extracting ancient energies and infusing them into every-day, wearable jewelry as I have done with my line of re-balancing amulets, P.R.A.Y., Feng Shui practitioners have developed an accessible connection to this ancient art.

Why Feng Shui?
1. Improve health, prosperity, energy flow for yourself and surroundings
2. Helpful selecting home which can bring all of the above
3. Harmony, health, prosperity increases with interior design based on Feng Shui
4. Allows one to be in balance and avoid possible future negative scenarios

Easy Feng Shui Basics, Anywhere:
AVOID:
1. Front door opposite the back door; Qi (energy) may easily slip away.
2. Cactus or prickly plants/ objects inside a room.  Increases aggressive energy, pushes others away
3. Bedroom - cluttered and has TV. The most important space - whether a long-term or temporary home, it is important to keep this space free of clutter so Qi may flow
4. Poorly positioned mirrors.  A mention in my previous article, mirror reflections send energy into the room, or absorb energy for that matter.  Poorly positioned mirrors, for example one reflecting the garbage can onto your desk, is less than ideal.
5. Clutter, garbage, dirt, in general hinder energy flow.

IDEAL:
1.  Bed, desk, chair, table: facing the door.  It is suggested to have this position in any room so you remain completely present with what you are doing.
2. Create an inviting entrance - to any room.
3. Place inviting & inspiring objects leading up to or just inside the door.
4. Lush plants bring life to spaces.

Enjoy this fun, simple activity to Feng Shui your bedroom.

September Yoga Awareness Month - Last Days

September is Yoga Awareness Month.
Some are seasoned practitioners, some have never set foot in a shala or studio.  Please take a gander at the following questions and answer back if you feel connected.  I will write a follow up piece and include the answers (publicly or anonymously) in my next article and would love to include some personal antidotes should you chose to share (picture(s) welcome!):

-        If you have never practiced yoga before…would you get out there and give it a shot/what’s holding you back?

-        What did you do (if anything, this year) to support Yoga Awareness Month?

-        What is your ‘edge’ when you practice/why do you love yoga?

-        What are you most grateful for in life?

Much Gratitude and Love,

Zahara Jade

The Un-Story: It's All Happening

Life Happens While We’re Not Looking.

More to reality, everything we need is here and now, but sometimes the mind wants to escape, or emotions cloud experience.

"The next message you need is always right where you are." — Ram Dass

I’m building a dream.  A vision.  A creation.  To inspire, to heal, to re-create, re-formulate, undo, redo, shift, transform, revolutionize.  The juiciest parts are in the NOW, the process, the Un-Story.

At times, though, I feel as though I’m in a waiting station.  I’m “waiting” for my vision, P.R.A.Y., to take off.  I’m waiting to inspire.  Inspiration is not always immediate.  Sometimes as on facebook I send out a post and receive immediate feedback, or write an article on, say, Elephant Journal, and feedback comes back almost too immediately and I feel inspiration or deflation, for that matter, from around the world, in a matter of seconds or hours.  I teach a yoga class and those moments, immediately following the class I feel the gratitude from students.  This is one of the reasons working in the healing arts is so fulfilling.

But other work, blood, sweat and tears of day in and day out is delayed gratification as in many of our jobs.   I’m waiting for the business to be financially abundant.  The most precious moments are in the waiting.  Since flipping over to less direct means of healing, through material energy on a grand scale, the impact is larger but the feedback.

This IS the story.

To quote my incredibly talented, successful sister; I feel like a “homeless man”; all three – myself, her, and her husband – travel the world for our visions and the closest thing we have to material grounding is a trunk in Mysore, India which we share.  Will I have a home once this……?  Once this, or once that?  Will I meet a partner…….once this, or once that?

No, no, no, no, no.  Simply, no.  I prove to myself on a daily basis that everything IS possible NOW.

I can manifest what I want in this moment, regardless of external circumstances, everything is impermanent anyhow.  I wish to connect with a particular person and POOF!  The connection happens.  I send out the intention to become a published writer in Elephant Journal and BOOM, here I have it.  Gluten/ dairy free delicious frosted something, the closest thing which may mimic my favorite dessert from America I’ve been craving?  NO waaaay---wait a second!  Delicious frosted Avocado-Ginger muffins to die for at my local organic shop.  Seriously, yum.  Oh and a sweet road bicycle to ride around town, gifted to me.  100 monks at P.R.A.Y. jewelry blessing ceremony?  No problem.
Buddhist monk ceremony during which P.R.A.Y.
amulets were charged w/ powers

“It’s all happening” as goes the favorite hippie quote of the day.  My mind gets caught up in what it believes the story is and I nearly miss the Un-Story, or rather my life: reality and the present moment.  Truth is, I am handed gifts from the Universe left and right.

"Prolong not the past
Invite not the future
Do not alter your innate wakefulness
Fear not appearances
There in nothing more than this" — Ram Dass
